Do you still regularly sync your iPhone with iTunes?

Tomorrow at their annual special music event, Apple might announce a new version of iTunes (iTunes X?) — maybe with $0.99 TV rentals or streaming cloud music — and thinking about that made me realize I hardly if ever sync my iPhone with iTunes anymore.

Just before iPhone 4 came out the Apple Store swapped out my 3GS due to cracks along the dock that had been preventing me from syncing. Because I couldn’t sync, I’d been downloading apps directly onto ..read more

Palm to go Retina Display with webOS 2.0, next generation handsets?

Derek Kessler over at sibling site PreCentral.net let us know that developer logs are showing traces of webOS 2.0 supporting the same 960×640 resolution as Apple’s iPhone 4 Retina Display:

This time the developer was Killin’ It, and the app was the relatively popular game Cloud Hopper, As before, it’s entirely possible that somebody has performed some malevolent trickery to make this happen, but unlike theRoadrunner spotting in Foursquare’s Metrix logs, this one wouldn’t be quite so easy. Cloud Hopper’s source code ..read more

Forget those rumors about a 7-inch iPad coming sometime soon, it looks like Apple Retail Stores suddenly have a whopping 55-inch iPad in stock.

Well, on display is more like it. Similar to the giant iPhone 3G/3GS that used to dominate the windows, the new 55-inch iPad shows off all the photo, web, and other features available on the regular sized device.

The displays sit atop giant sized books, newspapers, and other assorted old media. They show how Apple is positioning the ..read more

How is your iPhone 4 battery life under iOS 4.0.2? Since iPhone 4 launched we’ve gotten tons of email and tweets from readers surprised at just how much battery life they’re getting out of iPhone 4, but iOS 4.0.2 seems to have raised that bar (even if only slightly).

I know my iPhone 3GS would be in the red by early evening, yet even pushing around four times as many pixels with that huge Retina Display, iPhone 4 seems to just ..read more

Apple’s first Liquidmetal product revealed

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the above image is a SIM ejector tool that was first included with the iPhone 3G and later with the iPhone 3GS and according to Cult of Mac it is indeed made out of Liquidmetal. Yes, this is the exact same Liquidmetal that Apple recently licensed the intellectual property of just last week. And in case you were wondering exactly what is Liquidmetal – it’s a very hard metal alloy, basically unbendable, and has ..read more

Apple TV will be renamed iTV, have apps, but not support 1080p

Engadget has received info from a trusted source that the next Apple TV will be renamed iTV, have apps, and unfortunately, not support 1080p playback.

Apparently the box won’t be capable of handling (or enabled to handle) 1080i or 1080p video. Instead it will only push out 720p clips. The word — and cause for much internal debate, we’re told — is that this has something to do with the A4’s inability to crank on higher resolution content, but we ..read more

Regarding AT&T, Verizon, and iPhone exclusivity

No one outside a very few at Apple and AT&T know exactly how long iPhone will remain exclusive in the US. While the original deal was for 5 years, deals are subject to all manner of renegotiation, renewal, termination, amendment, and service level agreements. It could run out earlier than expected or it could continue on longer. While we can’t see the dark matter that is Apple and AT&T exclusivity, we can see some of the gravitational ripples around it.

iOS 4 features: Background app killing

iOS 4’s new fast app switcher interface also allows you to kill both Apple and 3rd party App Store apps that may be causing problems in the background.

To access the fast app switcher in iOS 4, double click the home button on iPhone 4 iPhone 3GS, or iPod touch G3. The interface will slide up and reveal a second dock-like set of app icons “in the background”. To kill an app, tap and hold the app until the icons begin ..read more
