That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the above image is a SIM ejector tool that was first included with the iPhone 3G and later with the iPhone 3GS and according to Cult of Mac it is indeed made out of Liquidmetal. Yes, this is the exact same Liquidmetal that Apple recently licensed the intellectual property of just last week. And in case you were wondering exactly what is Liquidmetal – it’s a very hard metal alloy, basically unbendable, and has ..read more

China Unicom launching iPhone 4 (with Wi-Fi!), iPad

Looks like iPhone 4 will hit China Unicom next month, and with Wi-Fi to boot. Apparently the iPad is coming as well, but not at the same time — or any time specified at all yet.

Previous versions of the iPhone in China have controversially not included Wi-Fi and suffered in sales compared to real iPhones sold unlocked in Hong Kong or smuggled in via the gray market.

Still no word on China’s largest carrier, China Mobile, or whether or not ..read more

The Baltimore Sun has found an SEC filing that shows Apple has broadly licensed the intellectual property of California amorphous alloy maker Liquidmetal, perhaps for use in future iPhone and iPad devices. What’s liquid metal?

It’s a mimetic poly-alloy that can create bladed weapons–

No, sorry, that’s from Terminator 2.

According to its Website, Liquidmetal is a “leading force in the research, development and commercialization of amorphous metals. [Its] revolutionary class of patented alloys and coatings form the basis of high ..read more

Apple, EFF comment on Jailbreak DMCA exception

Given yesterday’s Library of Congress exceptions to the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) for Jailbreak and Unlock, it was only a matter of time before both sides, Apple and the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) commented.

Here’s what Apple told Cult of Mac:

“Apple’s goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak ..read more

AT&T Activates 400-500K iPads 3G in Q3, using more data than iPhone

In addition to the 3.2 million iPhones AT&T activated on their network last quarter they also switched on 400-500K iPad 3G. What’s more:

It’s “surprising” how many business customers are approaching AT&T about the iPad.

Business Insider quips that Microsoft should look out, but given the profit share Apple has taken on iPhone and the low margins of typical PC hardware, what damage they may not do to unit sales they may well do to revenue.

What’s also interesting is that iPad ..read more

Hot on the heels of Apple’s 8.4 million iPhones sold in Q3, AT&T announces a record-breaking 3.2 million of those were activated on their network. Their churn levels were lower than ever as well, 1.01 percent postpaid churn and 1.29 percent total churn, and the all-important ARPU (average monthly revenues per subscriber) up 3.4 percent.

On June 24, AT&T began offering iPhone 4, the most powerful iPhone yet. Preorder sales of iPhone 4 were 10 times higher than ..read more
