Are the new iPod nano and Apple TV running iOS?

September 3, 2010 by admin

Apple introduced a new iPod nano this week with a multitouch screen, and a new Apple TV with an A4 chipset, but didn’t make clear if either or both were running iOS. Unlike iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, where they shout iOS from the rooftops, they’ve historically kept mum about iPod and Apple TV OS.

iPod nano looks like it’s running iOS. It has an iOS-like user interface with a subset of iOS-like built-in apps controlled by iOS-like gestures. There’s inertial ..read more

Steve Jobs: iPod touch more popular than Nintendo DS and Sony PSP combined

September 2, 2010 by admin

Yesterday during Apple’s annual Special Music Event Steve Jobs announced that the iPod touch was more popular than both Nintendo’s DS and Sony’s PSP… combined. Jobs also said more than 1.5 games and entertainment apps have been downloaded by iPod touch devices to date.

However, as every gadget and gaming blog has since pointed out, while iPod touch has sold in the mid tens of millions of units (Apple doesn’t often break them out), Nintendo’s DS series has sold 132 million ..read more

Apple special music event – what we didn’t get

What didn’t we get from Apple during their 2010 special music event? The iPod touch line got an extremely decent refresh, as well as the Nano.   iPhone is getting iOS 4.1 next week with some newly added features and some much needed bug fixes. The iPad will be getting iOS 4.2 – in November, but I’m sure some of us would have liked to see it sooner. And we got an overhauled iTunes. I personally ..read more

Yet more iPod touch 4, iPod nano 6 case and screen protector leaks

I love the smell of a iPod touch 4 and iPod nano 6 accessory leaks in the morning. Once again we’ve got cases from China, this time with a side of screen protectors for good measure.

How informed are the device mockups? We’ll find out for certain at Apple’s special music event this Wednesday but until then, give us your best guest — real, fake, or really fake?

iLuv case with camera cutout in the center?

Reader Gerald spotted an iLuv case with camera cutout in the center in a local Marshall’s clothing store:

[The case] was labeled as an iPod Touch 2nd Generation hard shell case made by a company called iLuv. The reason i liked this case so much was because it had a spot for a rear camera, and the dummy cardboard example of the iPod clearly showed what the camera looked like. I snapped a pic as proof.

Now what could that have been ..read more

Concept: Magic iRemote for iOS Apple TV/iTV

August 30, 2010 by admin

Dan Wineman’s concept, above, for an iOS-powered Apple TV/iTV remote that’s essentially an iPod touch without the screen, is interesting. Same accelerometer/gyro, same multitouch, same home button.

I think this device might even work as the only remote for the iTV, even when you’re just using it to, you know, watch TV. No pushbutton Apple Remote at all, in other words: everything is gesture-based. Tap to pause, swipe left to rewind, swipe right to fast-forward. Slide up or down to adjust ..read more

It’s taken a while but Netflix has finally updated their iOS app to universal binary — that’s right, it now supports not only iPad but iPhone and iPod touch as well.

“Apple has changed the game for mobile devices,” said Reed Hastings, Netflix co-founder and chief executive officer. “We’re excited that our members can now carry Netflix around in their pockets and instantly watch movies and TV shows streamed from Netflix right to their iPhone or iPod touch.”

Requires iOS 3.1.3 or ..read more
