Once again, a new ngmoco’s game has hit the Canadian App Store first — this time it’s kingdom-builder We Rule [Free with in-app purchases - iTunes link]. Hey, there’s no Hulu or Google Voice in Canada, so fair’s fair!

Like all recent ngmoco games, We Rule leverages the social gaming element via their Plus+ network, and has in-app purchases for “Mojo” which basically speed up things like growing crops and building homes, so you can pay if you don’t want to ..read more

Given the rumors surrounding Apple and Google lately, and the iPhone and Microsoft Bing, it’s no wonder Mobile World Congress 2010 has raised both topics again, earning a smile from Steve Ballmer, and yet another “stable” comment from Google.

First up, Reuters has comments from Vic Gundotra, Google mobile engineering lead:

“Apple is a very close and valuable partner and we’re very excited about the relationship we have with them today. We have no reason to believe that’s going to change.” [...] ..read more

Notion Ink’s Atom is one of the next generation “tablet” style devices that will no doubt be compared head-to-head with Apple’s iPad. First, a note to traditional media — if we never read the phrase “iPad killer” it’ll be too soon. We clear?

Second and that said, SlashGear shows off some renders and it looks like the Adam brings some interesting ideas with it.

While much of iPad presentation thus far has been focused on content consumption, Apple’s iWork demo and the ability to run iPhone productivity apps — and eventually iPad-specific apps — as well as 1024×768 web apps means it’s got a fighting chance in business, especially key verticals like medicine, and with developers like Omni Group.

First up, 9to5mac reports that in a survey by medical lynch-pin Epocrates [Free - iTunes link], up to 60% of doctors were at least considering an ..read more

Rumor: Apple Also Developing Mac OS X-based, 15.4″ Tablet

Silly TiPb, we should have known the very moment after Apple introduced the iPhone OS-based iPad, rumors would be revisited that an Mac OS X-based, 15.4″ version was also being developed. Sure enough, here comes TechCrunch saying just that.

The info is based on a second hand source with main point corroboration from a second source (no names!)

If there is any truth to that, we could learn something as soon as Apple’s WWDC event this year, which will likely take place ..read more

Will Apple’s iPad Get Jailbreak and How Long Will it Take?

February 1, 2010 by admin

When Apple announced the iPad last week, TiPb’s email quickly filled up with readers and forum members who wondered if it would be possible to jailbreak it and, if so, how long it would take? First, it’s important to remember that, while we’re all excited, the iPad doesn’t even ship until March at the earliest, so it is pure speculation at this point. We do hope the likes of the iPhone Dev-Team and/or Geohot will try their hardest to get ..read more

iPad Impressions from People Who’ve Actually Used It

Like many things Apple, the iPad launch has galvanized those who believe it’s the “next big thing” from those who believe it’s the “latest stink” — but what about those who, you know, have actually spent time using the thing, and now had a chance to ponder it a bit?

Sure, some are no doubt Apple enthusiasts easily impressed, while others are jaded journalists almost impossible to impress. For a mix of both, follow on after the break.

Apple iBooks App to be US-only at Launch? What About iPhone-also?

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before — Apple rolls out a new form of media, like say iBooks e-books, for their iTunes/iPod/iPhone/now iPad ecosystem, and it’s initially only available in the US.

No doubt the global-village defying mess that is international media licensing rights is at play here, as different publishers can own different parts of the same books in different territories, so TiPb is not at all surprised. Like iTunes Movies and TV, which took a long time ..read more

What TiPb Really Wants from the iTablet — No More Tech Support Calls from Mom

January 22, 2010 by admin

TiPb’s iTablet hopes and dreams are fairly simple — Apple, please make us a device we can give to our moms and never get another tech support call back from them in our lives.

Okay, maybe never is dreaming in AMOLED color, but we’d settle for seldom at this point. And we don’t mean to pick on mom — feel free to substitute or add dad, siblings, neighbors, and everyone else to the list.

Now, almost no one outside of Steve Jobs ..read more
