Constantly speculated how business people use their smartphones and tablet gadgets when on-the-road? Satisfactory, maybe not, then. But Egnyte has tried to find out.
The survey of over 600 professionals that travel frequently for work found:
Four in ten (41%) say the Facebook app is the most addictive service on their phones. 60% favour the iPhone, 29% for Android (Read More)
iPhone, Android, and why smartphone openness is a lie

I’ve written several times that the “openness” argument made against Apple’s iPhone in general, and by Google against Apple in particular is overblown and often disingenuous. Sure, other smartphones might theoretically be more open at the platform level, but when it comes down to manufacturers and carriers, the end user-facing openness is just not there. We’ve already been through how manufacturers can lock down ROMs, carriers can lock out side-loading and add bloat-ware, and Google themselves can remote kill apps. ..read more
True cost of Apple control: no carrier bloatware on iPhone

We often accuse Apple of being too controlling when it comes to the iPhone, but sometimes that control benefit the end user — for example preventing the kind of carrier bloatware being foisted on the iPhone that Wired says is being foisted on the new Android devices from Samsung and HTC. Examples include trial versions of subscription services like MobiTV, GoGo Flight Internet, Where, Nascar, Football, and others.

Apple adds Nokia N97 mini video to death-grip series

Apple has added the Nokia N97 mini to their (growing?) list of smartphones that suffer from the now-infamous “antennagate” death-grip. Here we see the N97 dropping from 7 to 3 bars.
Of course, iPhone 4 doesn’t suffer from death-grip but death-touch, a single point of attenuation on the bottom left side. Apple made a trade-off for better overall reception and increased battery size at the expense of that single point of death-touch in low signal areas, but has since attempted to ..read more
Apple posts iPhone 4 Antenna Press Conference Video, Antenna Information Page

That was fast! Apple has not only posted up the video of their iPhone 4 Antenna Press conference from earlier today (sadly, without the Q&A), they have also put up a dedicated page to discussion signal strength issues with the death grip:
On a mobile phone, signal loss typically occurs when your hand attenuates the most sensitive part of the antenna. In the photos and videos below, we demonstrate how different grips cause attenuation on many popular smartphones — including iPhone ..read more
Apple: No software fix for iPhone 4 antenna issues
July 17, 2010 by admin

When asked during the iPhone 4 press conference if there would be a software fix for iPhone 4’s antenna issues, Steve Jobs and Scott Forestall both said an emphatic (borderline hostile) “no”.
While Apple offered apologies, facts and figures, demonstrations of other smartphones having the same issue, and free bumpers and cases to take care of their customers, they said no software fix was forthcoming:
Q (Josh, Engadget): NY Times says this might have a software fix, is this something that can ..read more

Supersized Smartphones: How Big Can They Get?

A size war is rampant in the smartphone world. The newest phones, principally gargantuan models for instance Sprint’sHTC Evo 4G and Verizon’s Motorola Droid X, are the Cadillac Escalades of mobile handsets: Large and hefty, but still small enough to slide in a pocket–barely. Deliberate these SUV-inspired specs: The Evo 4G measures 4.8 by 2.6 by 0.5 (Read More)
